Day 10 Information
Devils Dream to South Puyallup River - 8 Miles
Saturday, September 14th 2002
It is 9:30 on Saturday morning. I just left Devils Dream Camp. I left at 9 a.m. Earlier that some of the other days. I believe right now I’m at 5500 ft. In the book it shows 5320 ft. Maybe I passed Indian Henry’s Hunting Ground and didn’t even know it. My feet still hurt. Today is a nice wonderful day. The sky is almost completely blue except for a small streak of clouds.
This morning for breakfast I had granola, I think that’s it. And maybe a little bit of beef jerky and some drink – Strawberry banana.
Indian Henry’s Hunting Ground
This is looking a little more like Indian Henry’s Hunting Ground. It’s a little wider now. I think I was the first out of camp, although some people were climbing Pyramid Peak and one other peak, they plan on Pyramid Peak second if they have time. They left camp and passed me since they only had day packs. I’m walking through here watching the little birds fly around.
It is 8:20 p.m. on Saturday evening the 14th. I am at South Puyallup River. It’s a little different than I though. I though it would be like Indian bar, but It’s just the river about 250 yards away, with a bridge going over it. I got here at about 3 p.m. Before, I stopped at the river crossing about ½ mile from here. I talked again with some people I met at Emerald Ridge. I think they plan on emailing me. They are nice people. They live in Renton. I think she has been doing a lot of back packing, She said something about New Zealand. She got her stove there. We spoke about digital cameras and how to get pictures on the internet. Also how to get her music on her computer to her mp3 player.
For lunch I had a PBJ sandwich on a French roll, it was not exactly fresh but it wasn’t stale, it was given to me by another camper who had several and offered me one, that was at about 3:30. At 6:30 I cooked diner. I had potatoes and pasta. That is the norm so far.
I went through my 512 mb card, about 350 or so. I had taken several panoramas and 360’s up on Emerald Ridge.
A very nice couple that I met near Emerald Ridge. - I'm still waiting to hear from you guys...
Derek Rowley at Emerald Ridge.
I was right in the middle of one when I got “CARD FULL” I was really bummed. I felt hurried because there were
two hikers (Chris and Kim)
that I had just passed. And I didn’t want to have to pass them again. Though later I was taking another panorama and they passed me, right after I passed them again. I think I should have some good panoramas from Emerald ridge.

The Tahoma Glacier is right there. Just like the other glaciers, it was covered with rocks but these rocks had an orange color to them. The sky wasn’t perfectly blue but it wasn’t completely cloudy. I was the third person to camp today. I have site number 2. Site 3 is probably better, and 4 was way up the hillside. So I am ok with my site. There is no view but I do get sunlight through the trees. I pumped more water coming down from Emerald Ridge. I cleaned off my dishes. The walk to the river was longer than most other campsites. But Devils Dream was probably farther.
I have 2 sets of rechargeables left and 2 sets of alkalines left. Which I plan on using for the mp3 recordings and other for flashlight to be able to hike in the dark tomorrow night returning from Gobblers knob. Then I found one more set of batteries. Because 2 sets for 5 or 6 days just isn’t very much. And when I get back I think I have a set in the car.
