Day 13 Information
Sunset Park - Golden Lakes to Mowich Lake - 11.2 Miles
Tuesday, September 17th 2002

It is 8:45 on Tuesday morning. I am scheduled to stay here for today, but because I’ve heard the weather is supposed to stay as it is. I have decided to just head back to the car and go home. I’m just going to pack everything up. I have two miles almost flat then 5 miles to hike down then 3 miles up hill back to Mowich Lake. Elevation gain is about 2000 feet for the last 3 miles. It’s pretty steep but I’m ready to go home. Hopefully I can pack and leave here by 11 am. I can reach my car by at least 4 and get home no later than 6. This is my plan and I’m sticking with it since it is starting to rain again.

OK, it is 6:00 on Tuesday. I decided to leave golden lakes today because of the weather. I left camp at 10:20. I hiked up then way down to the South Mowich River fork. That part took a few hours. I took a quick lunch break and spoke with some hikers there at the river drying off. Then I hiked across to the north fork then up the last 4 miles to Mowich Lake. I arrived at about 3:30 p.m. I took a few pictures, of myself, the cars, the toilet.

I offered some people a ride since their ride was already more than 1 hour late. We drove down the Mowich Lake Road. His name was Chris her name was Kim. They tried calling their friend, and also the ranger station but no one answered. So I drove them all the way to Puyallup and dropped them off near the K-Mart.

Chris and Kim at Emerald Ridge the first time I met them.

The light at the end of the tunnel - Well, this was a VERY good sight actually.
